Clay Naylor

One of my best friends, Clay Naylor is currently (Sunday, May 25, 7:20 am) undergoing a lung transplant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Clay has had cystic fibrosis for most of his life. This will be a life altering surgery for him. It is still a relatively new operation so there is a good amount of risk involved. I just spoke with his mom (Judy) on the phone and she and her husband (Wayne) are very excited but also very nervous. The surgery will last most of the day and Clay's recovery will take several weeks. As you read this please pray for him.

Hey Josh (& Shana!)

I'll keep Clay in my prayers... He's in the process of receiving an amazing gift from a precious person and family who, in a moment of true devastation stepped back from their pain for just a moment to think of others like Clay...

And to someone who hasn't lived with cystic fibrosis -- to someone who hasn't spent most of their lives at some level of struggling to breathe -- this gift cannot easily be explained...

Like Clay, I have cystic fibrosis -- and like Clay is going through right now, eight years ago I received two beautiful, new lungs... It's been eight years and this still blows my mind every single day... I feel like someone put a silly red & blue spandex outfit on me, gave me a long red cape, smacked a big "S" on my chest and told me, "Go ahead -- take on the WORLD!!!"

I hope Clay's journey is as amazing as mine has been -- I hope his recovery is as wonderful and his life afterwards is awesome...

I've been very lucky and I've learned about the precious girl who saved my life -- Her name was Kari and she was from Iowa... She was only 17 and she was healthy as a horse... For some reason, in the month before she passed she told her family twice how strongly she felt about organ donation... I'm alive because of her, and because of her family...

And I've done so many things since Kari smacked that big "S" on my chest -- I've done 5Ks, I've leapt tall buildings... This morning I rode my bike 28 miles... I never, ever would have imagined doing anything like that in my first 39+ years... I hope Clay has the same experiences...

I have a little of my story, and a tribute to my donor at www.ClimbingForKari.org And, I blog about organ donation at www.ReviveHope.com One of the other contributors, Jenn, was a close friend of Kari's -- Jenn is now my close friend...

You take care!!! Thank you for telling people about Clay... Thank you for reinforcing just how special organ donation is -- and how special and precious organ donors are... I can imagine the mixture of joy and nerves that Judy and Wayne are dealing with right now -- Just wait until they see what Clay will be able to do with his new lease on life!!! Please give them my love too...

Love,

Steve

Wow! Reading this gave me chills! How amazing is that! God is so good to allow our bodies to work this way! He is truly amazing!

We are so overjoyed for what God has planned for Clay. :-)
