Let It Snow!
We had to blow dry the dogs. They were soaked after playing in the snow.
So this is our neighbor Travis. He's blind. And a sledder or tobogganer (as John the Canadian calls it). There are some massive hills around here and we had some fun. Travis went flying down this hill and couldn't hear John yelling for him to bail. He crossed a creek and went head-first into the bank (as seen in the pic). He was alright and in great spirits. He's got a good sense of humor - which is good b/c it was hilarious.

It wasn't enough that God forgave me. He counts me as righteous.
Hosanna in the highest!
Shana's Update
Now everything in our lives isn't exactly peachy, don't get me wrong. I have a healthy dose of family issues and we are scratching our heads on how life is going to work when baby SJ comes, but in all things we are to praise. All the blessings supersede the junk.
Josh just recently got me a new CD. Well, I should say it found its way into his bag of books from school (no worries, he didn't steal it). He has been wanting it pretty bad, and how it goes in our house is when he gets a CD he puts it on his IPOD and then it goes in my car and I get to enjoy. So, inadvertently I got a new CD. Anyways, it is the new Jeremy Camp CD, Speaking Louder Than Before. AMAZING!! Can't help but listen to it over and over again. There is so much truth in his lyrics. As I drive to and from work, or running errands, the lyrics have really spurred on worship in the mundane rituals of life. God is so good, and it is so important for us to seek him out. It is amazing to be chosen as one of his children.

Notice at the end where Chesley Sullenberger makes the statement, "Circumstance determined that it was this experienced crew that was scheduled to fly that particular flight on that particular day..." Circumstance? Really? After an experience like that. Bravo to Mr. Sullenberger for his incredibly heroic navigation. However, we should pray that God would open this man's eyes and heart to see the sovereign Creator instead of the circumstances.

From One President to Another
Our Father, Lord of all creation, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: We pray today with a sense of special urgency and responsibility. We come before you to pray for our new President, Barack Obama, and for all those in this new administration who now assume roles of such high responsibility.
We know that you and you alone are sovereign; that you rule over all, and that you alone are able to keep and defend us. We know that our times are in your hands, and that "the king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord" [Proverbs 21:1]. Our confidence is in you and in you alone. We come before you as a people who acknowledge our constant need for your provision, wisdom, and protection.
Father, we pray today for Barack Obama as he takes office as President of the United States. We pray that you will show the glory of your name in our times and in these days, confounding the wisdom of the wise, thwarting the plans of the arrogant, and vindicating those who do justice and practice righteousness.
Father, we pray with thanksgiving for the gift of government and the grace of civic order. Thank you for giving us rulers and for knowing our need for laws and and ordered life together. Thank you for this nation and the blessings we know as its citizens. Thank you for freedoms unprecedented in human history. We understand that these freedoms come with unprecedented opportunities.
Lord, we pray with thanksgiving for the joy and celebration reflected on millions of faces who never expected to look to the President of the United States and see a person who looks like themselves. Father, thank you for preserving this nation to the moment when an African-American citizen will take the oath of office and become our President. Thank you for the hope this has given to so many, the pride emerging in hearts that had known no such hope, and the pride that comes to a people who have experienced such pain at the hands of fellow citizens, simply because of the color of their skin. Father, we rejoice in every elderly face that reflects such long-sought satisfaction and in every young face that expresses such unrestrained joy. May this become an open door for a vision of race and human dignity that reflects your glory in our differences, and not our corruption of your gift.
Father, protect this president, we pray. We pray that you will surround this president and his family, along with all our leaders, with your protection and sustenance. May he be protected from evil acts and evil intentions, and may his family be protected from all evil and harm.
We pray that the Obama family will be drawn together as they move into the White House, and that they will know great joy in their family life. We are thankful for the example Barack and Michelle Obama have set as parents. Father, protect those precious girls in every way -- including the protection of their hearts as they see their father often criticized and as he is away from them on business of state. May their years in the White House bring them all even closer together.
Father, we pray for the safety and security of this nation, even as our new president settles into his role as Commander in Chief. We know that you and you alone can be our defense. We do not place our trust in horses or chariots, and we pray that you will give this president wisdom as he fulfills this vital responsibility.
Father, grant him wisdom in every dimension of his vast responsibility. Grant him wisdom to deal with a global financial crisis and with the swirling complex of vexing problems and challenges at home and abroad. May he inspire this nation to a higher vision for our common life together, to a higher standard of justice, righteousness, unity, and the tasks of citizenship.
Father, we pray that you will change this president's heart and mind on issues of urgent concern. We are so thankful for his gifts and talents, for his intellect and power of influence. Father, bend his heart to see the dignity and sanctity of every single human life, from the moment of conception until natural death. Father, lead him to see abortion, not as a matter of misconstrued rights, but as a murderous violation of the right to life. May he come to see every aborted life as a violation of human dignity and every abortion as an abhorrent blight upon this nation's moral witness. May he pledge himself to protect every human life at every stage of development. He has declared himself as an energetic defender of abortion rights, and we fear that his election will lead directly to the deaths of countless unborn human beings. Protect us from this unspeakable evil, we pray. Most urgently, we pray that you will bring the reign of abortion to an end, even as you are the defender of the defenseless.
Father, may this new president see that human dignity is undermined when human embryos are destroyed in the name of medical progress, and may he see marriage as an institution that is vital to the very survival of civilization. May he protect all that is right and good. Father, change his heart where it must be changed, and give him resolve where his heart is right before you.
Father, when we face hard days ahead -- when we find ourselves required by conscience to oppose this president within the bounds of our roles as citizens -- may we be granted your guidance to do so with a proper spirit, with a proper demeanor, and with persuasive arguments. May we learn anew how to confront without demonizing, and to oppose without abandoning hope.
Father, we are aware that our future is in your hands, and we are fully aware that you and you alone will judge the nations. Much responsibility is now invested in President Barack Obama, and much will be required. May we, as Christian citizens, also fulfill what you would require of us. Even as we pray for you to protect this president and change his heart, we also pray that your church will be protected and that you will conform our hearts to your perfect will.
Father, we pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, the ever-reigning once and future King, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He and he alone can save, and his kingdom is forever. Above all, may your great name be praised. Amen.

Christians are, first of all, citizens of a heavenly kingdom. The followers of Christ know no allegiance of ultimate rank to any government or earthly authority. Yet, the Bible clearly teaches that God has given us the gifts of law, government, and ruling authorities for our good. We are instructed to pray for "rulers and all who have authority" and to be faithful in praying "so that we can have quiet and peaceful lives full of worship and respect for God" [1 Timothy 2:2].
As Barack Obama prepares to take the oath of office and become the 44th President of the United States, Christians should be thinking about how to pray for the new President. I offer this prayer as a place to start, as we observe the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States together.

Got Onions?
To Kill A Mockingbird
The movie is set in the 1930's and blacks were only allowed to sit in the balcony (unless you were the one on trial). There is a scene in the movie where Atticus Finch loses the trial. He is the last one leave the courtroom - except for those in the balcony. Atticus' childern, Scout and Jim, are sitting in the balcony as well. Atticus did a remarkable job defending a black man (Jim) accused of raping a white girl. This of course was unheard of for the time. A white lawyer giving his best to defend a black man. As Atticus is packing his briefcase, those in the balcony begin to silently stand. At one point they are all standing except for Scout. One man says, "Scout, Scout, stand up." So she stands, a little confused. Then Atticus begins walking down the aisle to leave the room and the man says, "Your father is passing by." Then it hit me. This is why there is so much excitement over Obama - at least for the black community. He truly does represent change. No matter what he stands for he represents change and victory for a race of people who have been treated so badly in this country. Many of those people who were alive during the 50's and 60's are still alive today and this is true moment of vindication for them.
I am glad that we have a black man as president. I just wish it could have happened sooner. Obama does represent change for the African-American race. But he also represents change and hope for much of the country who are inclusive liberals who will truly change the face of this country. If I were a black man I would have a difficult time not voting for Obama. It must be difficult for so many Chrisitan black people to decide what is most important. Sure, its easy for me to say, "Choose your principles and convictions over your race." But as was said in the movie last night, "Try puttin' someone else's skin on and walkin' around in it for a while."
I think I have this fear that so many people will be let down by this man. When the shine wears off, all the balloons are popped, the bands stop playing, and the confetti is trashed, what will President Obama do? There is so much hype and excitement that I'm afraid of a let down. I think the country is in a very fragile state right now and I'm not sure we know what we've gotten ourselves into. Obama is not the Messiah and America is not God's Kingdom and Americans are not God's Children with exclusive rights to God. For this I am thankful. No matter what happens - good (which is certainly possible) or bad - God still sits as Creator of the Universe and Jesus is still the King of Kings. Not the President of Presidents.

Ok, here it is...
This is a picture of our kitchen in our old townhouse in Georgia. This picture was taken to go on our Realtor's website to advertise for our house. We had remodeled the whole thing before deciding to move - hardwood floors, new countertops and bar, appliances, backsplash. I also had some Coca-Cola stuff in our kitchen (I collect that stuff). It's rather bittersweet to look at this pic. We had a sweet kitchen - especially the oven/stove. And since we love to cook it made having people over and cooking a lot of fun. We still love to do that, but our place now is really small. Oh well. Its just a kitchen. The food still tastes good.
Picture Tag
I don't have folders of pictures on my computer at work. They aren't organized I guess. So, I just picked the fourth picture. This is Bogie in front of Dean and Judy's barn at the house in GA. This was taken while we were staying with them Jan-July of 08. I think this was the weekend we were baby sitting the next door puppy. I might do this again from my home computer and see what pops up, I like this tag.
These are the people I tag:
Josh
Danielle
George
Tessa
Maggie
Marcy
Jennifer
I promise if I do it from home I will not tag anymore people.
Dr. Mohler's blog today...
"This certainly explains a great deal about the current shape of Christianity in American today. Specifically, it points to at least one fundamental reason that so many Christians -- including a significant number who claim to be evangelical -- no longer believe that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven.
That reason: Eternal punishment in hell is not consistent with "the American experience" or "the American way." The God of the Bible, in other words, does not act in ways consistent with what many people consider to be American ideals. Sending people to hell is just not fair.
The Bible never claims that God acts fairly, of course. Fairness is the best we mortals can often hope to achieve. We want our children to learn to play fairly and each child learns all too quickly to cry out, "No fair!."
But God does not claim to be fair. The God of the Bible is infinitely greater than we are. He is faithful, just, holy, merciful, gracious, and righteous. A morally perfect being does not operate at the level of mere and faulty human fairness, but at the level of his own omnipotent righteousness. We hope to make things fair. God makes things right.
I think Alan Wolfe is on to something really important here, and Christians should think carefully about what he is saying. The Holy One of Israel, the ruler of all and the sovereign of universe, is now to be judged by his own sinful creatures by the standard of fairness. Doctrines ruled to be "unfair" are cast aside and overridden by our cherished cultural assumptions. Evangelism will die the thousand deaths of cultural awkwardness.
As much as Christians in this blessed nation should respect and cherish our democratic ideals and system of government, we must keep ever in mind that the Kingdom of God is ruled by a higher and infinitely more perfect law and system of governance.
Be warned: God is not running for office, and heaven is not a democracy."

When Its Icy outside, make ice cream!
Baby Stuff
I need some help from my readers, seriously all of you. I know there are lots of you out there that don't comment. I need help on a crib. Josh and I are looking at mini cribs. LA Baby and Da Vinci make some on casters. If any of you are familiar with them I would love some feedback. Also, we are looking at these mini cribs because we don't have a lot of room and want to get something that will see the baby from infant to about 18 possibly 24 months that is compact and portable. So, if you guys have any ideas out there please flood my comments to educate me. I think once we decide on this we can start a registry.
Thank you Thank you.

Cold....again.
Tomorrow and Friday look like this. Yipee!! I wish I was in Georgia where its a balmy 25 degrees. It snowed a little today. I wish it would actually snow enough to look good. They say it may get below zero for a good bit of the night tomorrow. I really can't remember the last time I was in cold like this. Can't wait to take the dogs out!

Shana's Update
Josh came home from work and I preceded for about an hour trying to convince him to take me to Outback. I haven't had or desired red meat for over a month. So, needless to say I really wanted to fill this craving. I begged and pleaded, but no give. I have to say he is pretty awesome for not, that would have cost half our food budget for the week. He is the man. Well, you are probably wondering if I got my Outback. I did! We compromised to order it take-out style so we didn't have to pay the full 20% tip on top of the food, along with drinks etc. Josh didn't order anything either, he just let me get what I wanted. So, what did I order. Outback special, 6 oz with french fries and a side of their fabulous honey mustard, salad w/tangy tomato dressing, and potato soup, extra bread with honey butter. YUMMO!!! I ate it all!!!! I could hardly believe it myself. I saved some bread and the soup for the next day, but still that was a lot of food for me too eat. It was so good, did I say that already. It was good.
So, last night I wanted Chinese food. Josh didn't budge on that one. We had tacos instead at home. It was still good.
Ok, I have to give tons of praise to my husband for something he did this morning. I woke up almost an hour late. I have no clue why, I never heard my alarm go off. So, that meant I had one hour to get up and get ready to get out the door. That is tight. I bolted out of bed and let the dogs out of their kennels. I left Josh in the bed and shut the door quietly behind me, today was the first time he was going to get to sleep in a bit cause he didn't have to work till 12:30. I fed the dogs, and jumped in the shower. When I got out of the shower, Josh was up and dressed taking the dogs out. He had already made the bed. I thought I would almost cry, baby hormones I am sure. He said, "don't worry, don't stress I will take care of the dogs just get ready for work you'll have time, you just won't be able to sit around a little like you like to." Which is true. I like to ease into my morning. I like to sit in front of Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts,Chris Como, and Sam Champion in the morning while eating breakfast, putting on my make-up, and my clothes as they warm up from my space heater. Well, not so much today. I am sure the gang missed me. Josh, you are my favorite husband. (that is an endearing saying we have for each other) I would have never asked you to get up and help me out this morning. Thank you for sacrificing your sleep-in time(which is precious, I know).
P.S. Today is our first doctors appointment. We are really excited.

Chic-fil-a dreams crushed!
Dealing with cravings on a budget is super hard. Especially when half the time nothing sounds good.
Snow, Chic-Fil-A, and Underage Drinking
Its snowing outside (again). I don't think it will snow for very long or accumulate very much, but here's the dilemma... Tonight, across from the St. Matthews Mall, a new Chic-Fil-A is opening. Actually it opens tomorrow morning. It will be managed by our good friends Darrell and Jenny Estep. Tomorrow morning the 1st 100 customers get free Chic-Fil-A for a year. That's right. Free goodness for a year. They say you must camp out to be one of the first because so many people desire the goodness. We desire the goodness too. One reason is because its one of the only foods that doesn't cause a barf-fest with the pregnant wife. Another reason is because we don't have much money and never eat out. So this will be a nice thing for us to have to boost quality of life - because Chic-Fil-A always boosts quality of life. So back to the dilemma...It's snowing outside and supposed to be really cold tonight and we don't have much cold gear. And did I mention Shana is pregnant? We do have Andy's (my bro) tent. I think we could do it, but it'll be a tough journey to gain the goodness.
I caught a bit of a radio commercial on the way to class this morning. It was sponsored by the Ad Council (like all public service commercials in Louisville). It was promoting an awareness to end underage drinking. Here was their pitch, "it's dangerous and can cause teenagers to use bad judgment." Right. I agree. Not to mention it is illegal. But here's the thing. How is it different for adults? More adults kill people because of alcohol related bad judgment and being dangerous than anything else. It just sounds like a bad argument that any teenager could turn around to the adult and say, "how is it different for you?" I guess being an adult either makes you immune to bad decisions when it comes to alcohol or makes it ok for you to make bad decisions when under the influence.
That's all.

c'mon!
oh - Shana's throwing up again right now.

Shana's Update - Pregnancy
I have lost 5 pounds in the past couple weeks being pregnant. Although I couldn't tell you where I lost it from. My tummy has already done its changing. My abs have softened up and it has gotten hard underneath. I equate it to a playground ball, with not much give to it. I feel like I have a little pudge too, but that could be my bad self-esteem kicking in. I am definitely blooming in other areas as well. All you pregos and former pregos know what I mean. So, all that to say I don't know where I am loosing it from. That only leaves my arms, butt, and legs.
Ok I tried to be as discrete as possible in this post, I sure hope I succeeded.

A Christmas Surprise!
This Christmas Shana and I surprised my parents with the news that they will be grandparents for the first time. To pull this off we kept the news from them for over a month. We got them grandma and grandpa sweatshirts for Christmas and had them open them at the same time. Shana's dad was also there with his shirt to match. My mom's face is classic. Enjoy!
