The New Calvinism via TIME Magazine

TIME has published its "Top 10 Ideas Changing the World Right Now" for 2009. Guess what's #3? That's right - Calvinism. I was pretty skeptical when I clicked on the link waiting for a scathing review of this widely misunderstood doctrine of grace. However, this article is very positive and right-on in terms of historical and theological accuracy. Its totally worth reading.
Check It Out.

Thanks for sharing this article. I had not seen nor heard of it. That is great! Just to think that what God began to show me in His word some 15 years ago is what He is using to shape the minds of so many... all for His glory!

Some of my other Calvinist friends sent this to me yesterday. I don't think the point necessarily is that it, Calvinism, is transforming lives (not in our sense)....I don't think TIME cares about that. They are merely reporting what are the ideas influencing people now. You'd be hard pressed to find an idea within orthodox Christianity influencing more people right now. Emergent Church I think would come in second.

I actually think this article is relatively fair-minded for TIME.

But it is bad if Calvinists take this as some badge. If they pat themselves on the back as if this is a victory. From what I've heard or read from the main spokesmen they are not. (Driscoll, Justin Taylor, etc.) Interesting stuff though.

I do, however, remain gladly unreformed. I think I was just predestined not to be.

I don't really take this as a badge of honor. I just thought it was interesting and well covered for Time. I hope it didn't come across as some "Calvinist-Elitiest" statement - Lord knows we have too many of those.
